Tim Hill director

Tim Hill is a design director at TANDEM and brings 12 years experience in the industry, working on a diverse range of commercial developments, public buildings, residential projects and numerous international competitions.

Tim established TANDEM with James Murray in 2005. Prior to forming TANDEM, Tim was Design and Project Architect for the Atrium and BMW Edge buildings at Federation Square and Design Architect for the SOHO Shang-du project in Beijing for Lab Architecture Studio. His experience in the realisation of complex public projects, private residences and innovative community buildings is extensive.


James Murray director

James Murray is a design director at TANDEM and brings 13 years experience in the industry, ranging from schematic design to documentation and involvement in the conception, planning and realisation of areas of the interior, exhibition, retail and administrative functions working closely with multiple user groups including curatorial, conservation and client members.

Prior to forming TANDEM, James was Design and Project Architect for the NGVA at Federation Square for Lab Architecture Studio. After working with Lab as an associate for 7 years James spent time working for Arup within the structural and lighting design team. This was followed by time working with Mecanno in the Netherlands on such projects as the Montevideo Tower.

After establishing TANDEM with Tim, James continued to service projects with multiple user groups, complex briefs and high aspirations that include the retail masterplan for the NGVI, the NGVI shop, high tea room and restaurant,and the Pollywoodside Museum . These projects demonstrate James’ ability to communicate, lead and realise successful complex commercial and public projects.


Bryan Cush graduate architect

Bryan is an Irish-born graduate architect who arrived in Melbourne in 2005 after completing his undergraduate education in Glasgow and Eindhoven and employment with RPP architects in Belfast. He continued his studies at Melbourne University and graduated with a Masters degree in 2008, upon completion of which, he joined TANDEM.

Bryan's skill set is multifaceted; 3d modelling, visualisation, detailing and design. Projects which he has been actively involved at TANDEM range from Charcoal Lane to the Polly Woodside Museum and Albert Park Atheltics Stadium.

Following a sabbatical year in 2010, which saw him travel throughout Africa, he has returned to the office with a renewed sense of purpose about architecture and design.



Katherine Sundermann graduate architect

Katherine Sundermann is a graduate architect and brings a valuable and complimentary skill set to the TANDEM office. Through industry experience both in Australia and Germany, Katherine has a highly developed design sensibility, 3D modelling, visualisation and presentation abilities.

Prior to TANDEM Katherine worked for Berlin-based architecture firm Sauerbruch Hutton, specialising in colour theory, composition and presentation. At Melbourne-based firm FMD Architects Katherine worked on interior, residential and commercial projects requiring attention to detail and a strong visual sensibility. Through her work at TANDEM Katherine has strengthened and extended these competencies, working as a design architect on competitions, architectural and interior projects.


Julie Verstraete graduate architect

Julie has also travelled extensively, completing a 6 month ERASMUS exchange to the Bauhaus Universität in Weimar, Germany, and a 6 month AUSMIP (Architecture and Urbanism Student Mobility International Program) exchange to the University of Tokyo, Japan.
In 2010 she moved to Australia and began working for TANDEM after working in Europe for Compagnie-O Architects.

Julie's primary role is a designer. Her absolute attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills ensure that her contribution to the office is one of highest standard and accuracy. Her verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude make her an effective communicator.
She has been intimately involved in all facets of the office, her responsibilites extending to research, documentation, design and client presentations.
